Getting yourself Xbox Game Pass subscription is one of the most cost-effective ways to keep up with gaming as long as you have a PC, Xbox or mobile phone. It provides access to a huge number of games from things like Xbox studios, indie games, and gaming heavyweights like EA, Activision, and more.

To help you understand how the new memberships work and find the one that’s best for you, we’ve broken down the different membership levels below. And to help you sign up for less, we’ve also rounded up some of the only deals you can take advantage of right now. We’ll keep updating this page as deals come and go, so be sure to check back often for the best prices available.

Game Pass Core vs Console vs Ultimate

Xbox Live Gold no longer exists. In September 2023, Microsoft overhauled Xbox Live memberships, and there are several different new subscriptions to choose from. You can check out ours detailed breakdown of the update for all the details about the changes, but we’ve explained the main differences below to help you choose the plan that’s best for you.

Game Pass Core

At $10 per month, Game Pass Core is the most affordable membership available. It covers what was previously included in a Gold subscription, including access to online multiplayer for console gamers. However, this new membership also includes access to a library of over 25 titles, including popular games such as Halo 5: Guardians and Negative impact 4 – the latter of which just received a new next-gen update following Amazon’s new TV show. It also gives you access to exclusive offers and discounts. And you can sign up for a quarterly subscription for $25 and save a few bucks every month.

PC Game Pass

There is also a Game Pass version for PC gamers. It still costs $10 per month, but it comes with some extra benefits, including access to a much larger library of hundreds of PC games and access to new games on Day 1. This subscription also includes a membership to EA Play, which adds a few more titles to your library and provides some exclusive rewards and content for select EA games.

Game Pass console

If you’re a hardcore single-player gamer, there’s also a Game Pass Console subscription. It doesn’t give you access to online multiplayer, but it does include a huge library of hundreds of titles, including access to exclusive games on day one. And like Game Pass Core membership, it also lets you take advantage of exclusive offers and discounts. That’s a little more expensive than $11 a month.

Game Pass Ultimate

Game Pass Ultimate is the best of all worlds and is more or less unaffected by the update. At $17 per month, an Ultimate subscription bundles the benefits of Core and Console memberships for $4 less than it would cost to sign up for both separately. You’ll get access to the entire Game Pass library on your console, PC, and mobile device, including access to select titles on day one, and you’ll be able to participate in online multiplayer as well. You’ll also get benefits like exclusive offers and in-game content, and it includes the EA Play subscription you get with your PC membership. Like many, our reviewer called Game Pass Ultimate “best deal on gaming content” and it is the best option for all gamers who do not want to compromise.

The best subscription deals available right now

Unlike comparable PlayStation subscriptions, there’s no official annual membership plan available for Xbox game subscriptions, making it a bit harder to consistently find them a good value. Although there are occasional deals directly from Xbox, these are usually only for new subscribers. And since the redesign is still pretty new, there aren’t too many discounts yet, but you can score some savings through third parties with a little digging. To help you save a little money each month, we’ve rounded up some of the best (and only) ones available right now below.

Xbox/CNET

This CDKeys deal is the best value you’ll find right now if you’re after a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Ultimate already saves you $4 per month by bundling Game Pass Core and Console memberships, and this three-month subscription deal drops your monthly cost to just over $9 per month instead of the usual $17. These codes can be purchased by existing or previous Game Pass subscribers and can be stacked so you can extend your membership and pay for several months in advance at a lower price.

Xbox/CNET

If you don’t want to sign up for an annual subscription, then there’s a great six-month option that usually costs $10 a month. Thanks to this CDKeys offer, however, the subscription is reduced to the equivalent of about $6 each month.

Xbox/CNET

If you just want a basic Game Pass Core membership, you can score big savings when you sign up through CDKeys. This deal gets you a 12-month subscription for just $41, which is just under $4 a month versus the usual $10. That’s a huge savings of $79.
