Backup your iPhone before installing the iOS 18 developer beta
If the above issues you might encounter with the iOS 18 developer preview don’t deter you from installing it, just remember to take a full device backup first. If you don’t, the only way to go back to iOS 17 is to restore your iPhone as a new device, which can result in the loss of data, settings and other important information that you may not want to part with.
It you should not It does matter whether you backup via iCloud or iTunes, but one thing to keep in mind is that previous versions of the developer betas sometimes had problems connecting to computers so backup via iCloud may be the safer option.

When to expect the iOS 18 public beta
If you’re still putting off the iOS 18 public beta, you may not have to wait much longer. Since 2020, Apple has launched the iOS public beta in late June or early July and we expect the same this time as well. In fact, we can see the iOS 18 public beta release as soon as July 8th.
This public beta will be slightly more accessible to those who have delayed the developer beta. These versions will be more stable for the everyday user and will have fewer bugs in the developer betas.

10 days after installing the dev beta, my iPhone became unusable — I couldn’t unlock my phone because Face ID stuck almost every time. When it was able to unlock it was slow and would eventually stop responding so I decided to go back to iOS 17 and start from scratch because I didn’t follow my own instructions and make a backup before installing the beta . I reinstalled iOS 17 and everything seemed fine. I then tried to repair my Apple Watch.
Well, you can’t. Or at least I couldn’t. Every time I tried to repair my Apple Watch, it failed with a message that my iPhone needed to be updated to pair the watch again. And if you didn’t already know this, there’s no way to rollback the operating system on an Apple Watch without actually shipping it.
Updating to the iOS 18 developer beta allowed me to fix the Apple Watch on my iPhone without a problem. Luckily reinstalling Beta with a backup was pretty stable this time. We’ll see how he does in another 10 days. Just a heads up that if you’ve installed the iOS 18 developer beta on your iPhone and WatchOS 11 on your Apple Watch, it looks like you might be stuck on both unless you agree to not use your watch.
