Jarryd Hayne will not face a fourth sexual assault trial

[ad_1]

Former NRL player Jarryd Hayne will not face a fourth trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman on 2018 grand final night.

The 36-year-old spent more than a year behind bars after a jury found him guilty in April last year of two counts of non-consensual sex.

Jarryd Hayne was released from prison earlier this month when the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal overturned his conviction. (nine)

Today, the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed in a statement that a fourth trial would not commence.

“Having carefully considered the many competing factors that inform the public interest assessment in this case, the ODPP has decided not to proceed with a fourth trial against Mr Hayne.

“The decision was made in accordance with the Prosecutor’s Office Guidelines. As the reasons for the decision are legally privileged, they will not be disclosed and the ODPP will not comment further.”
