Police are trying to establish how a driver lost control of his car before driving onto a footpath and plowing into a pedestrian in Sydney‘s inner-west.
The escaped Mazda left the 24-year-old woman little time to react before hitting her and shot her on Liverpool Road in Strathfield around 10pm on Tuesday.

She suffered serious head and spinal injuries and is in a serious but stable condition at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Bystanders gave her first aid as she drifted in and out of consciousness, and paramedics treated her for almost an hour before she could be taken to hospital.
“The first thing I heard was the thump and this really sharp, piercing, spine-chilling scream,” one witness told 7NEWS.
The 30-year-old driver was taken to Concord Hospital Tuesday night for a mandatory drug and alcohol test and released without charge.
He was called in for further questioning at the Auburn Police Department late Wednesday.
7NEWS understands he told police fatigue may have caused him to lose control.
The investigation continues.
